I love to rewrite. Writing a piece is hard work. You have to generate new stuff from thin air. But when you rewrite, that's when the magic happens. That's when you can blend the odd pieces into a unified whole that can surprise even the writer.
I finished the rewrite of The Reward of the Fool today. Originally, the book was short, a scant 176 pages. Now it is a scant 219 pages. Still small, but 25% bigger than before. But the new ending creates a whole new feel. I think it now stands up to The Last and Final King, the book to which it is a sequel. King was my magnum opus. Now I think I have two. The muse was kind to me today.
